Everything changes at the Cut
The Dawesville Channel, cut through the dunes in 1994 to flush the Peel-Harvey Estuary, marks more than a geographic boundary. South of it, Dawesville is a long, thin suburb pinned between the Indian Ocean and the Harvey Estuary, developed in irregular stages over three decades.
That staged development is why there is no single answer to "what hot water system should I put in". The newer releases around Port Bouvard and the golf course estate tend to be on reticulated natural gas and fitted with continuous flow units. Older properties along Old Coast Road and out towards Melros and Bouvard are frequently on bottled LPG, or all-electric with no gas at all.
Getting the fuel question right first
This is the part worth slowing down on, because it determines everything else.
On mains gas, a continuous flow unit is normally the cheapest system to run and a straightforward replacement.
On bottled LPG, the maths shifts. Bottled gas costs considerably more per unit of energy than mains gas, so the running cost advantage over electricity narrows or disappears in a high-usage household. For a permanently occupied family home on LPG, a heat pump frequently wins over a ten-year horizon. For a weekender, LPG continuous flow still makes sense because nothing runs while the house is empty.
